When it comes to waste, our 10+ years of industry experience has allowed us to see the best and the worst of what civil contractors can do. Sadly, the typical approach is one of compliance and complacency...
In our time we've heard it all:
"Construction activities are just naturally something that will create a lot of waste right?"
"That's just the way things are!"
"Sure we can recycle but other than that its too hard to make a difference?"
It's this outlook that has prevented the industry from making the strides needed to question our practices and try and reinvent our reliance on 'traditional construction materials'.
To change the waste heading to our landfills we first need to understand its lifecycle.
Why do companies have skips filled with packaging and unused material. Well it’s a lack of planning!
At CB Civil we ensure that we thoroughly review project requirements and make sure we use ecologically friendly and sustainably sourced products. From our Just-In-Time inventory systems to the use of eco Bitim, we want say proudly that we set out planning not to make waste.
Ask any of our staff what the 5R's are, they probably known them better than the continents of the world!
That fact alone keeps us warm at night but it represents our stance that education is the key to generating and disposing of waste sustainably. That's why every day is a challenge to minimise consumption and spot opportunities to promote and support the zero waste journey of our partners and suppliers.
While this work started as an internal exercise we are ecstatic to now be able to share our knowledge!
