The problem

It's no surprise that the civil construction industry is currently one of the biggest emitters of green house gases. Given the nature of the work, the extensive supply chain and slow to move methods; most within the industry think that change will only come at the call of government.

Our solution

We apply data driven insights and practical knowledge of sustainable solutions to facilitate industry education, collaboration and the willingness to disrupt.

CB Civil conduct regular and thorough value engineering reviews, to identify and address opportunities within our projects, and reduce our carbon footprint. Early contractor involvement is one of the most effective strategies to achieve positive outcomes for the environment and communities in which we work. We open up the process to all stakeholders of an infrastructure project to collaboratively identify, ideate and implement sustainable innovation. This allows us to co-generate GHG reduction initiatives that are aligned with fundamental client objectives such as cost reduction, industry leading quality and efficient delivery.

Our sustainability framework encompasses worksite to C-suite ensuring our 120+ staff and involved partners are equipped and encouraged to contribute. By integrating the sustainability learnings of each project, we refine the knowledge of various disciplines and project scenarios into a self-perpetuating model of innovation. Utilising education and collaboration as tools to drive client-side demand and drive discussions of what is truly possible.

The problem

It's no surprise that the civil construction industry is currently one of the biggest emitters of green house gases. Given the nature of the work, the extensive supply chain and slow to move methods; most within the industry think that change will only come at the call of government.

Globally, the construction sector is responsible for 39% of the total of energy related GHG emissions, and has a significant role to play in reduction strategies (World Green Building Council 2019).
In New Zealand, GHG emissions from construction and the built environment accounted for circa 20% percent of all carbon dioxide emissions in 2019 (Thinkstep 2019).

These figures are startling to say the least, but they act as a signpost for SMEs like ourselves to recognise the impact we can have in answering the carbon question!
