Ti Tawaipariera Flood Mitigation (Ti Tahi)
This project saw the construction of a box culvert underpass/ drainage channel across Ostend Road on Waiheke Island. The project also required relocation of HV services, significant temporary works, earthworks and road reinstatement. Contract Manager Greg Wichman, oversaw efficient delivery to programme, strong implementation of environmental controls and health and safety processes and the provision of proactive and successful stakeholder management to underpin project success
The project required extensive environmental management due to its construction in a coastal and wetland environment. Additionally, works involved clay capping and earthworks to an existing landfill adjacent to the flood channel works. All works were completed successfully to our ISO:14001 Environmental Management System. We prepared management plans to comply with TP90 (now GD05) standard. Environmental controls included marine silt curtains, flood channel bunding, and clean water over-pumping. Regular audits were undertaken on the project with Auckland Council with CB Civil achieving full compliance.
More Infomation
The significant earthworks involved included an 8,000m3 cut to fill/waste and a 70m shaped outfall channel within a Coastal Marine area. Stringent Environmental and sediment control measures included the construction of a 231m2 rip rap outfall apron.
100m of channel was constructed which included piling and large volume, deep excavation as well as 250m linear of galvanised steel and H6 treated timber retained channel
CB Civil installed 27m of twin 2m x 1.5m box culverts under Ostend Road as well as 90m channel lining concrete works and rain garden construction.
We installed significant drainage ranging in size from 150 to 1200 dia.
As the main HV connection to Waiheke Island ran through our site, we coordinated closely with Vector to relocate this cable, enabling the culvert installation. We also managed in-ground services including temporary diversion and support
CB Civil performed a two-stage cut and cover operation to install the culverts, minimising disruption to motorists.
