OMANU & AERODROME ROAD STORMWATER MANAGEMENT:

The stormwater management project on Omanu and Aerodrome Road highlights our capability to install large-diameter concrete stormwater pipes and box culverts in challenging conditions. Papamoa beach, with its high water table and adverse weather over the duration of the project is one example of our team working and succeeding in such an environment.  

Our goal was to enhance stormwater infrastructure by extending existing pipes, constructing stormwater treatment devices like SPEL baffle boxes, and installing new culverts and pipelines. This project required us to manage deep excavations, temporary works, and effective environmental controls across multiple construction sites.

One of the most significant challenges we faced during this project was working within a live stormwater outlet during poor weather conditions, including the wettest summer on record. Additionally, navigating a KiwiRail reserve, and working around live services such as a DN450 asbestos concrete wastewater main and strategic gas mains, posed significant logistical and geotechnical difficulties. We showcased our resourcefulness by implementing innovative techniques, like well point dewatering, to manage groundwater and wet soft sands effectively, alongside integrating bypass pumping and ground reinstatement to golf course specifications.

In the Aerodrome Road segment, we managed complex stormwater installations, including recycling PFAS-contaminated land and working below sea level alongside a trucking yard. Despite these challenges, we successfully completed the project ahead of schedule, showcasing our efficient project management capabilities under airport constraints and amidst flooding incidents.
