Working for the Community

Our infrastructure projects are designed to enhance the positive impact we make in the communities we work in.

As a business we maintain and improve New Zealand's access to water, transport and developed land. While this is incredibly  important, we want our projects to deliver tangible benefits to our communities that go above and beyond the industry standard.

Right from the outset of each project we work with local stakeholder groups and community leaders to understand what our impact should look like! Our initiatives may change the diagram to the right shows what we consistently focus on.

Supporting our Stakeholders

Working in infrastructure can be difficult, whether its disruptive construction activities or needing private access, minimising our effect on local residents and businesses is a challenge that requires effective communication and cooperation.

As New Zealand's Collaborative Contractor we have a proven track record of transformational stakeholder relationships. CB Civil deploys dedicated and friendly staff out into the community to drive engagement and create accessible channels of communication. We put ourselves in front of locals, ready and eager to answer questions and understand how best we best we can plan our project around community needs and expectations.

When working in your neighbourhood you can expect:

  • Face to Face Community Consultation
  • Iwi Input and Review
  • Resident Q&A
  • Outgoing Project Newsletters

Educating our Tamariki

We want to prepare the tamariki of New Zealand to realise their potential and attain careers that are fulfilling. CB Civil create pathways for youth and adults alike to gain industry exposure and the training necessary to achieve their ambitions.

In partnership with Puatala and The KuDos Science Trust we facilitate the Science Spinners STEM HUB programme to inspire Maori and Pasifika students across Auckland and the Waikato. Our engineering staff work with local school groups to show how Science and Engineering subjects are applied in the workforce, give industry guidance and offer opportunities to gain NZQA Level 2 and 3 Infrastructure micro-credentials.

By guiding our tamariki and rangatahi within the sector we ensure we develop and embed local talent; leaving a lasting impact that extends beyond CB Civil. Throughout our projects we offer students from the specific region opportunities to gain the knowledge and experience to help build the future of their community. This takes the form of:

GATEWAY Programmes          Summer Internships          Cadetships          Graduate Deployments

Local Development

We believe in developing an empowered workforce which reflects the diversity of the community it works!

CB Civil are proudly 32% Maori and Pasifika staffed!

We partner with Amotai, Puatala and Auckland Council via Ngā Puna Pūkenga to connect module-based training and pastoral care with a structured pathway to employment. We provide targeted opportunities for Maori and Pasifika, forming strong whanaungatanga with community leaders and development pathways.

Our all hands approach places local Iwi and Pasifika groups, MSD, Department of Corrections and Community Leadership at the heart of our resource planning. On each project we hold roundtable discussions on how best to offer local employment, opportunities for development and maximise our social spend. Through our training entity Te Whare Whanui we wrap around new staff, providing tailored support and training so that each role is a career rather than a paycheck.

We engage the experts that are leading the change so that we can help scale their impact in the industry, address the issues effecting the local labour market and create a lasting difference for the greater community.
